Tidal Expressions
My journey with ceramics started in my twenties but it was after many years in 2021 that I rediscovered working with clay and I decided to re-orientate my life to being centred around creativity.
My practice is based on gently tugging myself away from any perfectionistic tendencies I may have to try to allow myself to follow my instincts. I create from a place that simply feels good, and I lean away from the functional and logical towards abstract, organic and sculptural forms. Combining ceramics with other materials to make things not easily put into words. This process feels therapeutic and feeds my soul. I have also fallen in love with alternative firing methods such as raku and wood firing where I can thrill in the force of nature and the unexpected.

I have an Honours degree in Psychology from The University of Melbourne and have worked in the fields of research, mental health and disability, often with marginalised communities. I am a mother of three almost grown-up children and we have a diverse neurodivergent family.
Since 2023 I have worked in ceramics to assist people who experience disability and/or are neurodivergent at Clay Talk Montsalvat, with Jack Latti at Studio Nioka, and in my own home studio. I am currently excited to be partnering with Alyssa Potter from Clae Space Studio to be running “All Abilities” classes.
My vision in co-founding this Ceramic Collective with my son and by collaborating with our amazing team is to create a strong, dynamic and inspirational community where a true diversity of people can come together in a caring and sensitive way to support one another to thrive. With respect, understanding, humility and kindness as core values.
My buisness name Tidal Expressions was chosen to compliment the “Moons” of Neptune. And to reference the variety of “Expressions” of creativity which I hope to share in and strive for myself. I have my own distinct and authentic way of being artistic and I find joy and fulfilment in discovering, celebrating and supporting other people’s unique creativity as we navigate the highs and lows, wonders, mysteries of expressing ourselves through art.
